Beccles 2 - 1 Carrow 2s (06/01/2024)

This was a good beginning to the new year with a hard-fought win over carrow 2nds. Beccles got off

to an excellent start when Ellie Kirby scored after only a couple of minutes. The game was played in

good spirits with both teams fighting for every ball. As Beccles had the majority of the play, they

should, in theory, have scored more goals. However, all credit to the Carrow defence, who stopped

everything Beccles threw at them, and Carrow rarely let the ball near their keeper! Likewise, the

Beccles keeper didn’t have very much to do, especially as the midfield/defence players of Jodie,

Emma, Marie, and Hannah D, all worked tirelessly to keep the opposition at bay. After 26 minutes of

the first half, Beccles went 2-0 up after a scramble in the carrow D, and with the ball pinging about,

Kath Holmes was on hand to slip the ball over the line. In the second half, Carrow scored their goal

from a counter attack in the 19 th minute after a well taken shot. Beccles had a run of penalty corners

awarded but they just could not get through the Carrow defence. Carrow put pressure on Beccles in

the last 5 to 10 minutes of the game, hoping for an equaliser, but despite some tiredness Beccles

managed to hang on and the final score was a 2-1 win to Beccles.
