East Coast 2nds 2 - 0 Beccles (08/02)

Beccles did not have the best of starts for this league game at East Coast Academy, with the home team scoring within 2 minutes! East Coast were a very well organised team, and their positioning/team work on the pitch was very good. East Coast increased their lead after a bit of a scramble in the D after half way through the first half. Beccles did create quite a few scoring chances, but they were prevented from scoring by some very good defensive play. After a foul by Beccles just inside their 23 metre defence line, Beccles were surprised by the decision to award a penalty corner to East Coast. The penalty corner was taken and after some action in the D, a penalty flick was awarded after the ball hit the leg of a Beccles defender right in front of the goal. Lorraine Greenwood in goal, flung herself and stick to the side as the flick was taken, and prevented the attacker from scoring. The half time score therefore remained at 2-0. Beccles continued to defend well, with noticeable performances from Lorraine, Sara Grant, and Rachael Callaghan, who were all instrumental in halting the opposition. Beccles did create several scoring opportunities, but could not quite capitalise on them.
